Rectal stump

Rectal stump is the blind ended structure formed by the distal gastrointestinal tract after a low diversion, as may result from a Hartmann's procedure.

Rectal stump specimens may have:

Diversion colitis.
Diverticular disease.
Carcinoma.^[1]
