Acute villitis, also acute placental villitis, is an uncommon pathology of the placenta.

General

Microscopic

Features:

  • Neutrophils in the villous stroma - key feature.
  • +/-Features suggestive a particular infective etiology.
    • Cytoplasmic inclusion +/-owl's eye nucleus (CMV).
