General
Microscopic
Features:
- Intraepithelial neutrophils - key feature.
- Basal cell hyperplasia.
- No infectious agent identified - important.
Note:
- One should:
- Do stains to exclude fungal organisms.
- Check the history for immune deficiency - if this isn't on the provided history.
DDx:
Stains
- PAS-D stain -ve for fungal organisms.
- GMS stain -ve for fungal organisms.
IHC
- CMV -ve.
- HSV1 -ve.
- HSV2 -ve.
