Hidradenitis suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa (abbreviated HS), also known as acne inversa,[1] is a benign skin condition.
General
May be associated with:[1]
Gross
Features:
- Location - classically intertriginous areas.[4]
- Axilla, buttocks, groin, inner thighs, breast (inframammary fold).
Microscopic
Features:[3]
- Apocrine ducts plugged by keratin and dilated - key feature.
- +/-Bacteria and inflammation in the congested ducts.
- +/-Fibrosis (late).

SKIN AND SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE, RIGHT AXILLA, EXCISION: - DILATED APOCRINE DUCTS AND A FIBROTIC DERMIS WITH MILD CHRONIC PERIVASCULAR INFLAMMATION, SEE COMMENT. - EPIDERMAL INCLUSION CYSTS. COMMENT: The findings are compatible with a history of hidradenitis suppurativa.
