Pathology and food is a strange combination.
Gross pathology
- Strawberry gallbladder = cholesterolosis of the gallbladder.
- Chocolate cyst = endometriosis.[1]
- Sugar-coated spleen = hyaloserositis of the spleen.
- Apple core lesions = circumferenial gastrointestinal tumour (usually sigmoid colon).
- Nutmeg liver = congested liver.
- Walnut brain = severe (frontal & temporal) cerebral atrophy in Pick's disease.
Microscopic
- Salt-and-pepper chromatin = stippled chromatin (characteristic of neuroendocrine tumours).
