Features:
- Intraepithelial neutrophils - key feature.
- Basal cell hyperplasia.
- No infectious agent identified - important.
DDx:
Stains
- PAS-D stain -ve for fungal organisms.
- GMS stain -ve for fungal organisms.

ESOPHAGUS, BIOPSY: - ACUTE ESOPHAGITIS. -- NO FUNGAL ORGANISMS IDENTIFIED WITH PAS-D AND GMS STAINING. - NO COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM IDENTIFIED. - NEGATIVE FOR DYSPLASIA.
