Granular crap DDx

DDx of granular stuff:

1. Lipofuscin - especially in old people.
2. Hemosiderin.
3. Bile - found in hepatocytes, yellow.
4. Foreign material (tattoo pigment, anthracotic pigment).
5. Melanin.

Notes:

• Granular stuff should prompt consideration of malignant melanoma.
• Memory device: Männer lieben feine BHs = Melanin, Lipofuscin, Foreign, Bile, Hemosiderin.

Stains that can help sort it out

• Prussian blue for hemosiderin.
• Melan A for melanin.
• Kluver-Barrera for lipofuscin.
