Cytomegalovirus colitis is a type of colitis.

General

• Uncommon.
• Immunosuppressed population at risk, e.g. transplant recipients, individuals with HIV.

Microscopic

Features:

• Enlarged nucleus - classically in endothelial cells.

DDx:

• Infectious colitis without a distinctive morphology.
• CMV colitis superimposed on inflammatory bowel disease.
