Negative prostatectomy, also radical prostatectomy without cancer, occasionally happens.

General

  • Seen in approximately 1% of prostatectomies.[1]

Work-up

  1. Review biopsy is available.
    • Is it plausible?
      • Biopsies in minimal cancer prostatectomies usually have minimal low grade cancer.
  2. Submit prostate in total (if not already done).
  3. Levels (x3) on all prostate blocks.[1]
  4. Flip the (prostate tissue) blocks.[1]
