Wound healing is important in surgery and occasions discussed in pathology. It depends on local factors and systemic factors.
Local factors
- Size of wound.
- Vascularization.
- Presence of infection.
- Etiology of wound.
- Presence of foreign bodies.
- Wound motion/tension.
- Presence of neoplasm.[3]
Systemic factors

- Nutritional status.
- Cardiovascular disease.
- Endocrine conditions - diabetes mellitus, excessive steroids.
- Systemic diseases - Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
- Systemic infection.
