Sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lung is a rare epithelial derived lung malignancy that has morphologic features suggestive of a malignant mesenchymal tumour (sarcoma).[1] It is a sarcoma-like lung carcinoma.
General
Gross
- Mass lesion - typically upper lobe and peripheral location.[1]
Microsopic
Subclassified as:[1]
- Pleomorphic carcinoma.
- Spindle cell carcinoma.
- Giant cell carcinoma.
- Carcinosarcoma.
- Pulmonary blastoma.
DDx:
- Poorly differentiated lung carcinoma (non-small cell lung carcinoma).
- Primary lung sarcoma.
- Metastatic disease:
- Carcinosarcoma.
- Poorly differentiated carcinoma.
- Sarcoma.
