General

  • Benign.
  • Usually older men.[1]
  • Classically present with bleeding.[1]

Microscopic

Features:

  • Intraepithelial neutrophils - key feature.
  • Basal cell hyperplasia.
  • No infectious agent identified - important.

Note:

  • One should:
    • Do stains to exclude fungal organisms.
    • Check the history for immune deficiency - if this isn't on the provided history.

DDx:

Stains

IHC

  • CMV -ve.
  • HSV1 -ve.
  • HSV2 -ve.
