The navicular cell is a benign type of intermediate cell seen on Pap tests.
Navicular means boat-shaped.[1] Navicular cells have folded edges and can be imagined to be a boat that is seen from directly above.
General
- Benign.
- Associated with: pregnancy, contraception with medroxyprogesterone acetate (Depo-provera).[2]
Cytology
Features:
- Intermediate cells with:
- Folded edges.
- Abundant cytoplasmic glycogen - central yellow.
Notes:
- May resemble the lenses of coke-bottle glasses.
